How Does Bullying Affect Education?
There are many studies and media stories out there about how bullying affects a student's school life. The areas in which a student may be affected includes academics, social, and emotional. "Consequences of cyberbullying can include
poor academic performance, school dropout, physical violence, and suicide, and it is a method of bullying that is frequently hidden from adults" (Mark & Ratliffe, 2011). Some parents and students have said:
" this hostile atmosphere caused her "to resist attending school, hurt her academic performance, and damaged her emotional well-being," (Maazel, 2011).
Often times, students have reported that they don't feel like their parents or other adults know or care about what is going on. There is the idea that bullying is a "rite-of-passage" among adults. The truth, according to Officer Westfield, is that adults never learned how to deal with bullying: " Adults don’t deal with it. Your parents didn’t deal with it. Your grandparents didn’t deal with it. We, as a society, make light of bad situations."

When asked if they were cyberbullied by someone at their school, 11.9% of boys, or 116 boys said they were cyberbullied by someone who attends their school. When asked the same question, 13.4% of girls, or 132 girls reported they were cyberbullied by someone at their school.
Interestingly, 18.5% of girls and 14.7% of boys that were cyberbullied reported that the threats made to them online were actually carried out in school. These numbers come out to 182 girls and 144 boys.
